With JUCY close to being finished (at least in the offline sense), I’ve been thinking lots about romantic comedies… and discovered that MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING is the highest grossing box office romcom ever made (in the English speaking world).

Predictably SEX AND THE CITY is in the top ten, as is PRETTY WOMAN. At KCDC we’re working on a sequel to the latter, the real story of what happens when a sex worker marries a rich man… more later.

Jucy’s EP Steve Kearney is heading off to Cannes next week, taking our film to meetings with potential sales agents as part of his slate. As Louise heads back into the edit suite with Andrew to resume postproduction, we’re hoping Jucy makes a splash on the French Riviera.

Next week I’ll be talking about KCDC’s cross-platform projects in front of and with my peers. The Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) is conducting a series of one-day seminars in the east coast cities of Australia, aiming to ignite producers of traditional media into taking their properties across platforms. The Brisbane seminar will be held at QUT on Friday May 1. Full details here.

MPA Workshop

Last week I presented at a workshop organised by Therese Fingleton, Digital Program Officer at the Australia Council for the Arts, and Gary Hayes, Director of AFTRS Laboratory for Advanced Media Studies (LAMP). The workshop was designed to inspire Australia’s established arts organisations with ways they might use digital platforms that are relevant to their field, and to their audience.

SBS has just confirmed their offer to develop one of KCDC’s cross-platform projects.

It’s a narrative comedy series originally conceived by Kelly Chapman and developed with award winning screenwriter Stephen Sewell. The network funded stage of development begins next month. Stay tuned.
